George Bell Barbee, age 91, of Clarksville, passed away Friday, May 22, 2015 at his Dogwood Bend residence.

George was born January 26, 1924 in Pembroke, KY, to George Gupton Barbee and Ethel Fort Barbee.

He was a long-time member of New Providence United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed being an usher.

George was retired from Fort Campbell Civil Service, where he worked in the motor pool. He served in the US Army during World War II.

George was an avid fisherman and delighted in operating the model trains, as a docent, at the Customs House Museum for five years.

Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Cynthia Talley officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home.

George is survived by two sons, Michael W. (Laurie) Barbee of Clarksville, and Richard Fort (Tracy) Barbee of Huntsville, AL; three sisters, Martha Elizabeth Adair of Madisonville, KY, Shirley McDaniel of South Carolina, and Virginia Lee Jordan of South Carolina; two grandchildren, Paige Barbee of Clarksville and Meredith Barbee of Huntsville, AL; step-granddaughter, Megan (Michael) Horton of Huntsville, AL; and one great-grandchild, Maelynn Horton.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Lillian Lancaster Barbee; brother, William “Billy” Barbee; and a sister, Mary Charlotte McGavic.

Pallbearers will be Bob Fort, Paul Emery, Blake Ransdell, Barry York, Wendell Wolfe, Mike Bowers, and Walker McCutcheon.
