CLARKSVILLE, TN – In honor of the six-plus decades of service to the 101st Airborne Division and the American people, the 2/17th air Cavalry “Gathering of Eagles” event at the Clarksville Regional Airport on May 16 and 17 will provide admission-free static displays and opportunities to ride in actual Vietnam-era helicopters for a fee.
Helicopters and ground vehicles from the past and current times will be on display for all to view, as well as a mobile military museum set up in the airport terminal (10 a.m.-4 p.m., both days). In addition, guests will have the opportunity to purchase rides in a Bell UH-1 “Huey” and/or a Bell AH-1 “Cobra” helicopter.
These are not simple helicopter rides. Seated in the Huey, flying with the doors wide open, guests will gain a sampling of the sights, sounds and smells experienced by our warriors as they embarked on their missions. In the Cobra, guests will experience the adrenaline rush of riding in the front seat of an actual US Army gunship as it undertakes various tactical maneuvers.
Food trucks and other displays are also planned.
If you would like to financially help bring these helicopters and other displays to Clarksville, and be recognized for it, or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the organizers, Sky Soldiers, at gcveno36@comcast.net. Sky Soldiers is a nonprofit organization, and any donations may be tax-deductible.
