CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Gateway Medical Center is hosting a Blood Assurance blood drive on Friday, December 18 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

With the holidays quickly approaching, blood donations are starting to decrease, but the need for blood never changes. “Traditionally, blood is in shorty supply during the winter months due to holidays, illness and inclement weather,” said Gateway Director of Laboratory Chris Baggett.

One blood donation can save three lives, and Blood Assurance is seeking community support. All donors will receive a free t-shirt and will be entered for a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card from Blood Assurance.

To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids – avoiding caffeine – and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating.

Gateway Medical Center is located at 651 Dunlop Lane, and the drive will be held in the Blood Assurance blood mobile located in the front parking lot of the Medical Center.
