Gateway Hospice is currently seeking volunteers from the community.

Hospice is a philosophy of care for people with life-limiting illness or injury. This care involves a team-oriented approach to provide expert medical care, pain management, and emotional and spiritual support tailored to the patient’s needs and wishes. Gateway Hospice is committed to providing competent care which optimizes patient comfort and dignity.

Hospice volunteers play a vital role within the Gateway Hospice team. Individuals can work as an Administrative Volunteer, Direct Patient Care Volunteer, or Bereavement Volunteer. According to Gateway Hospice’s Volunteer Coordinator, Angela McCasland, “Many people do not realize the impact an hour of their time can have on our patients and their families. Whether it consists of playing a game of checkers, watching their favorite TV show, or just listening to them, they enjoy the company.”

When asked about her experience as a volunteer, Jennifer McDowell stated, “The most fulfilling aspect of volunteering with Gateway Hospice has been getting to know the patients and learning about their life stories.”

In order to volunteer with Gateway Hospice, you must be at least 18 years of age, provide a valid driver’s license and current automobile liability insurance. After applying, volunteers undergo a process consisting of a Volunteer Interview, Background Check, Drug Screen, and TB Skin test, followed by orientation. Volunteers who are licensed or certified can offer special services such as massage, hair care, pet therapy, aromatherapy, etc. In addition, Gateway Hospice is also looking for veterans and active military personnel to volunteer with their growing veteran patient population.
