HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – A fundraiser has been started for a 15-year-old sophomore at Hopkinsville High School who was hospitalized after being sexually assaulted last week in Christian County.

Five people, including two juveniles, have been taken into custody so far for the videotaped assault of the teen. Read the original story here.

The victim’s attorney, Sands Chewning, started the fundraiser as a way to support the family during a difficult time.

“This family is trying to heal. The last thing they need to be doing is worrying about medical bills, worrying about the cost of driving back and forth to the hospital, and missing work,” Chewning said. “They need to concentrate on taking care of their son and not the financial aspect of that.”

The boys condition seems to be improving. “He’s able to get up a walk now. He’s starting to get use of his intestines back, which is a very good sign.” In an interview Tuesday on Q108, Chewning said doctor’s are hopeful he will be discharged in six to eight days.

A Go Fund Me account has been set up by Chewning with the family’s permission. As of 1:30 p.m. Monday, over $16,000 had been raised.

Those who donate to the account are asked not to name the victim on the website to protect his privacy.

Donations will also be accepted at Heritage Bank locations in Hopkinsville, Ky. under the name ‘HHS Baseball Victim Relief Fund’.
