CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW)- If you haven’t started your spring planting you may want to hold off and if you have, you may want to cover or bring in tender vegetation as a freeze watch has been issued for Clarksville-Montgomery County.

Wednesday at about 4 a.m., meteorologist from the National Weather Services in Nashville, said it’s expected temperatures will dip down to 29 to 30 degrees.

“It’s a freeze watch. We are looking at upgrading it in the next couple of hours, but we may be going with a freeze warning for tonight,” said John Cohen, meteorologist for the National Weather Services. “There are actual a few snow flurries today and It’s kind of late in the season.”

The temperatures will drop into below freezing at about 4 a.m. until about 8 a.m. or 9 a.m.

“This time of year for Clarksville, the normal low is upper 40s,” Cohen said. “It’s not unusually to get 15 degrees below the normal after a cold front. We will see the skies clear after midnight and it will be good conditions for radiational cooling to take place so we will dip down to freezing.”

Meteorologists said despite the early morning freeze, temperatures will get up to 60 degrees and then have a cool drop Wednesday night.

Thursday it’ll be in the 60s and by Friday it may peak at the 70 degrees.

It’s suggested to take tender vegetation inside or cover them, keep pets safe and bring them indoor in preparation for  the possible freeze.
