CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Freedom Alliance, in partnership with US Bank, presented Army Sgt. Biery Roland of Clarksville with the gift of a Toyota Tacoma on Tuesday at Wyatt-Johnson Toyota, in honor of his service to our country.
The presentation was part of the “Driven To Serve” program, an initiative between Freedom Alliance and US Bank that pairs available vehicles with service members in need. More than 75 vehicles have been provided by US Bank since 2018 and more than 45 presented in collaboration with Freedom Alliance.
During his deployment to Afghanistan in 2014, Biery experienced two mortar attacks. The first occurred while he was refueling helicopters. Fortunately, Biery survived and earned his Combat Action Badge.
Later, during another mortar attack, enemy forces hit the gasoline line, resulting in a massive explosion. Biery was hit with shrapnel and was evacuated to Germany. Following his recovery at Fort Campbell, he was medically retired in April 2015.
Biery has had surgery on both knees since retiring. He suffers from traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder and numerous other injuries. Biery has weekly appointments at the VA Medical Center in Hopkinsville or Nashville.
“Receiving a payment-free vehicle would benefit my family, as it would be safer to travel to my weekly VA appointments and we would no longer need to spend money on maintaining our 14-year-old vehicle,” Biery said. He and his wife Shelly have four daughters.
“This is a great honor. I am very thankful that Freedom Alliance and US Bank and everybody here came together to do this for me. This is a great start to help better myself and go in a better direction with what I need,” Biery said.

“Freedom Alliance and US Bank are proud to provide this vehicle to Biery,” Freedom Alliance President Tom Kilgannon said. “He served our country honorably and heroically and we can’t think of a better way to offer our appreciation.”
“This is very important to US Bank. We have over 2,000 U.S. veterans who currently work for US Bank. To be able to support and help veterans like Sgt. Roland in the situation he is in needing reliable transportation, it’s super important that we do what we can to help support our veterans,” Wealth Market Leader for US Bancorp Investments Tom Parker said.
