CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLAKSVILLENOW) – Soldiers and Families Embraced (SAFE) is a non-profit organization seeking to provide service members, veterans, and their families with free, confidential mental health services.
SAFE has recently updated its policies to allow for individuals to be connected with a counseling provider within an average of 1-3 days after reaching out for help— there are no waiting lists.
SAFE’s mission is to strengthen the emotional health of our nation’s heroes by providing services in a unique way that sets them apart from traditional counseling agencies. First, SAFE leads the field in accessibility: after a simple phone call (contact number: 931-591-3241) or inquiry to their website, a person is matched with a provider within an average of 1-3 days. There is no billing or insurance required—services are free.
Services are available to Active Duty, Guard, and Reserve service members, veterans (regardless of era served and regardless of discharge status), and family members.
Second, SAFE stands behind confidentiality. Unless information is specifically authorized for release by the client, assessment and treatment information is not disclosed to other entities (this includes the individual’s command, insurance providers, or the VA).
*For safety reasons, SAFE providers are mandated reporters, so to prevent an individual from harming themselves or others, there may be specific instances where information may be released to individuals who can respond in crisis.
Third, most providers are either veterans or family members of veterans — so they can relate to and understand the unique challenges of the military population. Each provider has been highly vetted to ensure they are in tune with the military culture and unique challenges of transition. SAFE wants to make sure no one struggles alone — providers have been there and done similar things — so they get it.
