CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – In a day designed especially for the young outdoorsmen, the TWRA and City Parks and Recreation will host the Free Kids Fishing Rodeo this Saturday, June 8 at Liberty Park.

Children from birth to 16-years-old can enjoy this annual event held at the fishing pond inside Liberty Park. The rodeo is free and open to the public. Children, and their parents, do not need a fishing license for this day.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. Fishing will start at 7:30 a.m. and end at 9:30 a.m. Pre-registration forms can be picked up at all Walmart stores, at the sporting goods counter, in Montgomery County.

Parents cannot fish, only assist in baiting and taking fish off hook. One fishing pole for each participant. Trophies will be given in each category for most weight by boy and girl. Prizes will be given for biggest and smallest fish overall. Ties for biggest and smallest fish will be broken by most total weight.

The pond will be stocked with catfish, but there are all types of fish in the pond. The pond will be closed to recreational fishing the week prior to allow TWRA officials to stock the pond. Some worms will be provided by Bowles Baits, but participants will need to bring their own poles and bait.
