DOVER, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Fort Donelson National Park has several volunteer opportunities available in connection with their February 22 event, ‘Personal Stories of US Colored Troops’. Volunteers will be asked to give presentations and demonstrations on the United States.

All are welcome to apply. The Park is ideally looking for students to serve in the volunteer roles. Must be at least 16-years-old and able to attend an eight-hour weapons usage program with Fort Donelson National Park.

Teachers can send names of potentially interested students to Susan Hawkins, park ranger, or Dr. Nancy Dawson. Deadline is February 15.

Practice times will be arranged. Some practice times will be in Dover and some will be in Clarksville.

Training includes students learning about Union soldier uniforms, leather gear, and accoutrements. Practice will also include wearing the Union soldier uniform, to include weapons, at the same time.

The main event takes place Saturday, February 22 beginning at 11am at the Stewart Co Visitors Center in Dover.

Volunteers will be served lunch and then go across the street for an additional presentation at Fort Donelson National Battlefield.

Educators may be interested in the Traveling Trunks made available by the Park. The trunks are a great resource for teachers interested in further classroom discussion. The trunks provide educational resources for students regarding American war uniforms and interesting facts about American History Battles.
