FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. – The 2nd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Campbell will be inactivated during a ceremony Friday, July 17.
2-17 CAV’s OH-58 Kiowa Warriors have supported the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) for nearly 20 years and have been the mainstay of the Army’s Air Cavalry component for more than 50 years.
The Army will replace them in the aerial reconnaissance mission with AH-64 Apache aircraft teamed with Unmanned Aircraft systems. The AH-64 Apache will become the next “War Horse” that Air Cavalry Soldiers will ride into battle.
The ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. at Division Headquarters.
