Fort Campbell, KY. (CLARKSVILLENOW) The Welcome Home Ceremony was a little late in getting started Monday morning at Fort Campbell, but family members, friends, and comrades still shared their excitement as 340 3rd Brigade Combat Team (BCT) soldiers returned from their nine-month deployment to Afghanistan. The ceremony was originally scheduled for Sunday but was delayed to early Monday morning.
Jerry Gallo from New York was at Fort Campbell Monday to welcome his son home. It’s great, I was waiting a long time for him to come home”, Gallo said. His son, Corporal Justin Gallo said this about returning from Afghanistan. “I’m proud to be back, it was a long ride, but it’s worth it.”
Task Force Rakkasan’s focus for the train, advise and assist mission was to build the Afghan Army and police and to strengthen Afghanistan’s National Defense and Security Forces. The 3rd BCT were instrumental in building national defense capacity in several different areas.
