Fort Campbell, KY. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Cheers an applause rang out as 171 soldiers from the 2nd Brigade Combat Team (BCT) “STRIKE”, and 1st Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment of the 101st stepped off the plane Sunday morning at Campbell Army Airfield. The soldiers were returning from a nine-month deployment to Iraq and other areas in Southeast Asia.
The soldiers served in Operation Inherent Resolve, and their primary mission was to advise, assist, train and equip Iraqi security forces to fight and defeat Da’esh. The troops also conducted surface-to-air fires, as well as supporting intelligence and logistical operations for Coalition and Iraqi forces.
One soldier, Captain Kasey Williams was greeted by his wife Erin, who is also a Captain in the 2nd Brigade. She talked about their little girl, Grace, who was born just before her husband deployed. “He’s been gone since April and he met our daughter when she was born and the last time when she was seven days old,” said Williams who added she was very, very glad to have him home.
Another Welcome Home Ceremony is scheduled for this coming Thursday. with more 2nd BCT soldiers returning from deployment over the next few weeks.
