LAKE CITY, Ky. (CLARKSVILLENOW) — A Fort Campbell soldier is missing after a boating accident Friday afternoon at Kentucky Lake in Golden Pond, Ky.

The individual’s name is being withheld pending completion of the search and notification of the family.

Officials at Fort Campbell said the soldier was boating and swimming with friends at the time of the accident. There were no other casualties. Search and recovery operations are being led by Lyons County Emergency Management Agency.

Marshall County Rescue officials told WKRN that the man, believed to be in his late teens, was being pulled behind a pontoon boat on a tube when it popped.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and fellow soldiers as the search continues,” said Brig. Gen. Todd Royar, acting senior commander of the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell. “We are grateful for the support from our civilian partner agencies during this event.”

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

The Coast Guard told the Associated Press Saturday it has ended its involvement because the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office no longer requested its assistance.
