CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Fort Campbell High outside linebacker Chris Talbott has been named Clarksville Now Player of the Week for his play on defense and special teams on Sept. 15.

The Falcons traveled to Fort Knox High to take on the Eagles during week 5 of the high school football regular season. Fort Campbell entered the game against their rival with a record of 1-3 after losing three consecutive games in the 2023 season.

The Falcons’ losing streak ended following the matchup with Fort Knox when they won by a total of 42-13. This was the second straight season Fort Campbell defeated Fort Knox. Talbott disrupted their opponent’s offense throughout the matchup as he consistently found ways to get in the backfield.

The junior finished week 5 with 6 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks. However, his performance didn’t stop there. Talbott also found ways to disrupt his opponent’s special team’s unit with a blocked punt.

“This performance reassured myself that I knew my assignment and that I just needed to trust my coaches,” Talbott said. “This past week meant a lot to me and it’s going to do wonders for us for the rest of the season.”

Up to this point in the season, Talbott has compiled a total of 24 tackles, 6 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks, 2 pass break ups and 1 blocked punt.

Coaches corner

“Chris means so much to this team,” said Fort Campbell head coach Henry Mitchell. “To see this young man progress after these two years have gone by, I am so proud of him. He’s having a tremendous effect not only on defense, but on specials teams and the offensive end too.

Mitchell said the one thing that makes Talbott such a special player is his ability to lead. “He never gets down on himself, and he always tries to pick his teammates up. On the field and in the classroom, his work ethic shows… I preach to all of my players that football to me is second. Those grades and teaching these guys about becoming a young adult, that comes first.”

Fort Campbell is set to return to action this Friday when they take on the Fulton County Pilots, who have yet to win a game this year (0-6). The game is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. on Sept. 22.
