FORT CAMPBELL, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Late in the evening on Monday, December 30, Fort Campbell Fire and Emergency Services worked to rescue Crockett, a hunting dog that had run up a windblown, lodged tree and become stuck 40 feet above the ground.
Fort Campbell Ladder 11 met with the hunters and Military Police, hiking 400 meters to the site. Ladder 11 established an anchor system and developed a belay and lowering system. Firefighter Mark Bienvenue then used tree climbing gear to climb a nearby tree to retrieve Crockett the Coonhound.
Once Bienvenue retrieved Crockett, the rescuer and canine were lowered to the ground safely by a team of Military Police and Ladder 11 firefighters.
“This rescue operation involving a canine in a tree was a first for the department, but our rescuers ingenuity ensured Crockett can hunt another day,” said Deputy Fire Chief Kevin A. Falsetto. “Hopefully he stays out of trees.”
