NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Former Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher was recently announced as a 2020 Inductee of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.
“Coach Fisher and I led the state’s two most visible football teams simultaneously for many years, and I always admired him from afar,” said Phillip Fulmer, Chairman of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame and University of Tennessee Director of Athletics. “Some of our players from UT went on to play for him with the Titans. In addition to being an excellent football coach, he is also a really good man. This is a well-deserved honor.”
Jeff Fisher was an NFL head coach for 22 seasons overall, mostly with the Houston/Tennessee Oilers/Titans franchise. He became the Tennessee Titans’ (previously the Houston Oilers) head coach during the end of the 1994 season and was their first coach when they relocated to Memphis, then on to Nashville.
Under his leadership, the Titans played in the AFC Championship in the 1999-2000 season where they won against the Buffalo Bills with the famous Music City Miracle play. Fisher’s Titans made six playoff appearances, three Division titles, two AFC Championship games and one Super Bowl. Overall, he had a 142-120 record in 16 seasons with the team.
“From Houston to Memphis, from Memphis to Vanderbilt, and finally to the team’s new home on the Cumberland River, Jeff Fisher led the Titans organization to great success on and off the field,” said Brad Willis, Chief Advancement and Operations Officer for the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. “Jeff has been a part of the story of sports in the state of Tennessee since 1997, and his career is truly worthy of Hall of Fame recognition.”
The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame previously announced fellow 2020 inductees Tony Delk, Bettye Giles, Dick Horton and Carl Torbush. The full class will be released in the coming weeks.
Information regarding tickets for the 2020 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be announced at a later date.
Established in 1966, the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame honors figures from every sport including basketball, baseball, football, golf, soccer and track & field, along with coaches, teams, sports writers and others who made an impact in the sports industry. The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development oversees all operations along with the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors.
