CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Families of students attending Northeast High School received a statement from the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System that there is a criminal investigation involving a former Northeast High School nurse for child exploitation.

The school system announced Wednesday afternoon that they were made aware of the investigation by the Clarksville Police Department, and that Homeland Security is also involved.

The former nurse, who was employed at the school from Aug. 1, 2018, through Nov. 7, 2019, was fired during a CPD investigation at that time involving exploitation of a minor.

CPD has informed CMCSS that law enforcement is contacting other potential victims, according to the statement.

“The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority, and CMCSS is fully cooperating with CPD as they investigate these heinous crimes,” the statement said.

Since this is an active law enforcement investigation, CMCSS and Northeast High personnel have no further information.

However, the school system advised families that if their student used nursing services at the school during this time and believe that they may have been a victim, or having information regarding the investigation, to please contact the Homeland Security Hotline at 1-866-347-2423 or email specialvictimscase21@cityofclarksville.com.

In 2019, Leon Burnett Hensley, a former Northeast High School nurse, was arrested and charged with a sexual crime involving a minor.

In June 2020, Hensley was indicted on 14 counts of especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and solicitation of a minor.

Anthony Johnson, chief communications officer for CMCSS, was unable to confirm that this newly announced investigation involved Hensley. He was able to confirm that the timeframes of the investigations were the same.

Clarksville Police had no further comment.
