CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Former city councilman Bill Summers has announced his candidacy for Clarksville Mayor as of Tuesday, May 29.
According to a press release sent by his campaign, Summers will focus on his vision to improve Clarksville by utilizing his past experiences as a public servant.
“I’ve spent my entire life in public service as a military officer, an advocate for veterans, a city councilman and as current vice chairman of Crime Stoppers,” Summers said. “I love Clarksville, and when I look around, I know we can be a better Clarksville with better leadership.”
Summers has lived in Clarksville since 1994 after retiring from the U.S. Air Force. He served for two terms on the city council. Today, he serves as the legislative liaison for the local chapter of the Military Officers Association of America and the newly formed Tennessee Veteran (TVET) organization.
“My campaign is focused on how we build a better Clarksville. I envision working together with the City Council and County Mayor to create a business-friendly environment for high quality jobs for our citizens and a better quality-of-life. Our infrastructure will also be a priority as I develop a comprehensive plan to lower traffic congestion and give our town better roads,” Summers said. “I will also use my experience with the Crime Stoppers to focus on lowering crime, so that our Clarksville families feel safe.”
Summers has been married 38 years to his wife, Cindy, and they have one grown daughter, Christina, who recently gave them their first grandchild.
The election is Nov. 6, 2018. To register to vote, visit https://ovr.govote.tn.gov and complete your voter registration form by Oct. 9.
