CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A onetime Austin Peay State University football player was killed in an Oklahoma City shooting on Monday.

Nigel Brannon, 21, was found dead around 2 p.m. at 11241 N. Pennsylvania Ave., according to Capt. Valerie Littlejohn, public information officer for the Oklahoma City Police Department.

“Based on what we had, officers got called to respond to a shooting at that location. When they arrived they found the victim, who is Nigel, deceased at the scene,” Littlejohn told Clarksville Now.

The investigation determined that before gunfire erupted, Brannon was in a car with 22-year-old Paris Tolver.

“It was believed that with them together that there was some sort of illegal activity going on which resulted in gunfire,” Littlejohn said.

Tolver was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, Littlejohn said.

Brannon was a defensive lineman for the Govs. He was suspended from the APSU football team in July when he was charged with aggravated assault after allegedly slashing a fellow player’s neck during a fight.

Clarksville Now has reached out to APSU Athletics for comment, and to confirm Brannon’s status with the football team. Brannon is not currently listed on the Govs football online roster.
