SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – After being called up Tuesday by the San Francisco Giants, former Austin Peay pitcher Tyler Rogers made his MLB debut against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Rogers pitched a clean eighth inning for the Giants shortly after his twin brother Taylor Rogers picked up his 21st save of the year for the Minnesota Twins.
The two brothers are the 10th set of twins in history to make it to the Major Leagues.
During his final year as a Governor, Tyler Rogers appeared in 41 games, finishing 7-2 with a 1.63 ERA. The whacky, submarine-delivery specialist also had 41 strikeouts and recorded 23 saves in his last season at Austin Peay.
The 28-year-old Tyler Rogers was selected in the 10th round of the 2013 MLB draft.
In seven minor league seasons, Tyler Rogers logged a 2.52 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with 7.9 K/9 in 342 appearances.
The right-hander threw 11 pitches against the Diamondbacks Tuesday, none of which were clocked over 83 mph on the radar gun. The Giants will likely use Tyler Rogers out of the bullpen for the remainder of the regular season.
