SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. – Over the last three days, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Unit team members participated in a battery of crime scene management drills, activities and scenarios.
Deputies Cody Lannom, Lisa Howell and Julio Maldonado were selected to participate in the course which was held in Springfield, Tenn. These deputies were exposed to mock scenes based upon historical investigations.
“The instructors are well recognized experts in the field of forensic science,” according to Sgt. Mark Wojnarek of the MCSO, a recent graduate of the NFA. Wojnarek further explains “the burden is upon law enforcement agencies to produce a work product that is ethical, well documented, and utilizes the scientific method.”
Brent Lackey, training coordinator with LEIC was asked: what separates forensic training programs facilitated by the LEIC and the NFA from others across the region?
“Through support from the State of Tennessee, UT’s Law Enforcement Innovation Center is able to provide state of the art forensic training at a discounted cost to agencies in Tennessee,” Lackey said. “This, along with the level of experience of our instructors, makes this training both unique and affordable.”
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office works hard to obtain training from the best and the brightest in the field; yet works diligently to secure these opportunities with the tax payer’s money in mind.
