CLARKSVILLE, TN − As the City of Clarksville nears the anniversary of the tornado that struck on Dec. 9, 2023, plans are under way to commemorate the anniversary with the planting of trees.

The city will distribute free, 2-inch-diameter trees to the first 150 survivor families, “symbolizing growth, renewal and hope,” according to a city news release. Families will be able to choose between an oak, maple, or flowering dogwood tree. Families must pre-register at www.cityofclarksville.com and select their preferred tree species. Trees will be available for pickup on Dec. 7 at Heritage Park, 1241 Peachers Mill Road.

“We hope this initiative brings a sense of renewal and growth to all affected families,” said Mayor Joe Pitts. “By planting these trees, we’re not only honoring the strength and resilience of our community but also investing in a greener future.”

The City has partnered with Hands on Nashville to help residents plant these trees, if needed. Residents who wish to volunteer and help tornado survivors plant their trees are encouraged to register at www.cityofclarksville.com.
