CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The local nonprofit organization known as Flourishing Families has purchased 1.2 acres of land to begin a community garden to assist homeless and low income members of the community.
The garden, located at 404 Beech Street, will be a source of freshly grown fruits and vegetables as well as horticulture therapy, education of healthy food options, a gardening skill set and an opportunity to complete volunteer hours. By providing for the hungry, the garden will attempt to “teach them important life skills so that they can one day feed themselves.”
Flourishing Families is currently in need of volunteers to donate their time, money and expertise to the project. Sponsors are also needed to purchase items needed for the garden. Along with garden work, volunteers can also assist the public relations team in informing the community of the need for sponsors and donations.
Sponsorship levels include:
$500 Bronze: Honorable mention on Flourishing Families event webpage
$1500 Silver: Everything on the bronze level, weekly social media mentions on Flourishing Families Facebook and Twitter accounts
$2500 Gold: Everything on the silver level and company logo featured on a specially made sponsor banner
$5,000 Platinum: Everything on the gold level and mentions in all media and radio releases as a major contributor to the garden
Volunteer times for the garden are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. or from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Flourishing Families assists homeless and low income in Clarksville with shelter, career services, financial advice, counseling and childcare. The garden, as well as the Second Chance program is intended to teach sustainability.
