CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Flourishing Families received a home from the city of Clarksville for its transitional housing program on February 1, 2017.
Flourishing Families opened the doors of this new transitional home to a family of five. New residents Chasity and Vincent Lee and their three children will live in the home for the next several months while working through housing challenges created by multiple illnesses and other hardships.
The family was chosen based on their success with the program. With the help of Flourishing Families, Chasity is attending classes in the hopes of one day owning her own daycare and Vincent is continuing his education.
“We’re a family trying to do better,” Chasity Lee said. “Flourishing Families has been courteous and generous, and we can’t thank them and the City of Clarksville enough. We hope someday to help back.”
The home did not come furnished. Calendra Blanks says the community could help by donating better quality beds, probably a couch and maybe even a dining table.
Flourishing Families is a seven-year-old Clarksville non-profit founded by sisters Calendra Blanks and Canadra Jenkins that helps the homeless find long-term solutions.
“This transitional house is a great new resource for us,” Calendra Blanks said. “This allows us to help a family that has shown a commitment to helping themselves. We do a complete game plan for the family, and help them manage the process and meet goals.”
