CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A day of wet weather has caused many nearby rivers and streams to reach flood stage in Montgomery County and surrounding communities. As of 4:39 a.m. on Tues., Dec. 17 the National Weather Service in Nashville, has issued a Flood Warning for the Red River at Port Royal.

The Flood Warning is active for both Montgomery and Robertson Counties in Middle Tennessee.

According to the NWS, rainfall from Monday has caused area rivers and creeks to rise rapidly.  The Red River at Port Royal is expected to stay above flood stage through this afternoon.

During a Flood Warning, residents are asked to avoid the flooded area and move any personal belongings to higher ground. Never drive through flooded roads. The depth of water may be too great to pass for vehicles including trucks or SUVs.

The warning for the Red River at Port Royal is expected to last through the evening. Flood stage is 30 feet and as of Tuesday morning, the river was at 30.2 feet. At 33 feet, officials say Port Royal State Park begins to flood.
