CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (Clarksvillenow.com) A little rain Wednesday couldn’t dampen the spirits of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA), Tennessee Chapter 18-2, as they placed American Flags to remember fallen Fort Campbell soldiers at Patriot’s Park on Fort Campbell Boulevard in Clarksville.

Kevin Armstrong, also known as “Gator”, with the CVMA said there are 653 flags, one for each Fort Campbell soldier that has been lost since 911. “We’re putting flags up for all of the fallen soldiers from Fort Campbell to pay tribute to their ultimate sacrifice,” said Armstrong.

Armstrong added that doing it on Memorial Day makes it just that more special. The flags are actually placed in Patriot’s Park about four times each year by the CVMA. Memorial Day, July 4, September 11 and Veterans Day. Around 20 volunteers of all ages were on hand including Clarksville City Councilwoman Deanna McLaughlin.

In the past the flags were placed in the ground at the park but this year the CVMA laid out red, white and blue 2 X 4’s with holes in them to hold the flags, make them stand out, and also less likely to blow over. Plans are for the flags to remain on display until after Memorial Day.
