CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Five people have been arrested in relation to an incident that left one man with gunshot wounds on the night of Saturday, August 1.
Corey Chuncy Willis, 38 of Taylor, Michigan, reportedly ran away on foot after being wounded by a 12 gauge shotgun near Archwood Drive.
Willis’ girlfriend, Shayla Ellis, 37, along with her brother, Jason Mason, 35, his wife, Vanessa Cobb, 22, and Janelle Wiggins, 35, the wife of the man who allegedly shot Willis, were all arrested for false report after giving incorrect information about the incident to police.
The witnesses initially said they saw a man with blood on his face, side, and arms running down the road, with Ellis claiming that her brother was not present as Willis approached neighbors asking for help. An arrest warrant states that Mason himself denied that he was present, and Cobb confirmed his story, saying that her husband had been at work at the time. Upon further investigation, It was discovered that Mason was at home when Willis was shot, and he “left his residence and arrived on the scene during the incident to fight the victim,” according to the arrest warrant.
Officers interviewed Ellis when she was found walking away from the area. She told police Willis is her boyfriend, and that they had driven from Michigan to visit her sister on Archwood Drive. She said they argued the whole trip and Willis had punched her in the mouth near Mallard Drive.
Janelle Wiggins also gave a false account of events, telling police that she had not seen her husband since noon on the day of the incident, though Justin Wiggins later stated that he was at home when he fired the round that struck the victim. Wiggins was charged with attempted homicide.
Police searched for Willis, 38, who is wanted on one charge of domestic assault. Officers were unable to locate Willis, though they believe he fled back to Michigan after the incident.
Willis is described as a black male, 38, from Taylor, Michigan. He was last seen wearing orange shorts and no shirt. No photograph is available of Willis at this time.
