MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. – First responders from five local agencies reported for lunch duty at Hazelwood Elementary Thursday, Nov. 19.

They served over 1,000 lunches to students and parents.

Hazelwood Elementary School Resource Officer Jason Wright organized the event and called it Public Servants Serving Students Day. He invited fellow law enforcement officers, paramedics, and firefighters to help him serve lunch.

The lunch coincided with Hazelwood’s Thanksgiving Celebration and parents were invited to eat a special Thanksgiving meal with their children. First responders were extra busy serving turkey, ham, green beans, corn, carrots, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, salad, and fruit to a capacity crowd.

“We are very happy with the turnout. It’s always nice to see so many parents take an active role in their children’s education,” said Hazelwood principal Jessica Harris. “It was an added bonus to have first responders help serve lunch.”
