CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Early voting opened Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. to a long line of voters that stretched from the Montgomery County Election Commission Office around the building to the side of Veterans Plaza.

The line of voters moved along at a steady pace and Administrator of Elections Elizabeth Black said the final total for the first day of early voting 3,020, adding that 173 people had voted in the first half-hour.

Atronda Lipscomb was the first person in line Wednesday morning at the Election Commission office, having arrived at 4 a.m. to secure her place in line.

“It’s very important because is is my first time really following politics and after this whole year it’s been crazy and I wanted to be first in line and ready to vote. I didn’t want to do it with the paper just in case some craziness happened,” Lipscomb said.

Another voter, Terrie Goble, said everyone should have their voice heard. “It’s an important thing to do, everybody should vote so that we can have our voce heard and everybody needs to put their voice in too.”

Several candidates for local office were present to greet voters as they waited in line.

Early voting for the November 3 Election continues through October 29 at the Montgomery County Election Commission Office, 350 Pageant Lane, Suite 404. in Veterans Plaza. For more on early voting visit mcgtn.org/election or call 931-648-5707.
