CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The first Govs basketball game in their new home at the F&M Bank Arena will be a men’s exhibition game on Nov. 1, and the first official season-opening games will be Nov. 6. That day, the women will host Trevecca, followed by the men’s game against Life University.

After 48 seasons in the Winfield Dunn Center, APSU begins a new era of Governors’ basketball in the state-of-the-art F&M Bank Arena this fall, according to a news release.

Women’s season highlights

For women’s basketball, the nonconference schedule includes seven home games, two tournaments, and one Power Five matchup.

Austin Peay opens its season in the new F&M Bank Arena when it hosts Trevecca, Nov. 6. The Govs then host Chattanooga, Nov. 10, after defeating the Mocs in the Scenic City last season, according to the release.

The Governors hit the road for a Nov. 14 game against Southeastern Conference opponent, Kentucky, in the Historic Memorial Coliseum for the second time in five years. Next, Austin Peay makes its way to “Indiana’s Basketball Cathedral” when it takes on Butler in Historic Hinkle Fieldhouse, Nov. 18. The two teams last faced each other in 2021, when the Govs upset the Bulldogs in Indianapolis.

Men’s season highlights

For men’s basketball, following its home opener, Austin Peay travels to Fairfax, Virginia for a Nov. 10 contest against George Mason, before returning home to face Fisk, Nov. 14, according to a separate news release.

New coach Corey Gipson and the Govs then head west for the 2023 SoCal Challenge, beginning with a regional game at UTEP, Nov. 17, followed by a pair of games, Nov. 20-22, at The Pavilion at JSerra in San Juan Capistrano, California.

A pair of former Ohio Valley Conference rivals are also on the schedule, as the Govs host Morehead State, Nov. 29. The Eagles lead the all-time series 59-56; however, the Govs have won three of the last four meetings in Clarksville, the release said.

Another rivalry continuing in the upcoming season is that between APSU and in-state foe Tennessee State, Dec. 2, at the Gentry Center in the Music City. The Govs are 52-32 all-time against the Tigers in a series dating back to 1963 and have won four of the last five meetings, including a 77-61 victory last season.

The Govs will face their oldest rival, Murray State, on the new home court. Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams host the Racers in a Dec. 9 matchup at F&M Bank Arena. Following the women’s game against Murray, the men renew the historic, 81-year-old rivalry as they look to claim their first win against the Racers since 2020.
