CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville Firefighters are helping to make sure that everyone stays safe from the danger of fire by providing free smoke detectors to the public. The Clarksville Firefighters Union Local 3180 will be giving the smoke detectors away at Governors Square Mall, Saturday, February 22 from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
The firefighters will be in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Court at the mall handing out the free smoke detectors while supplies last. They will also answer questions on the proper use of the detectors. The free smoke detectors from the firefighters are made possible through money raised from events held throughout the year.
President of the Clarksville Firefighters Union, David Kirkland, talked about the importance of every home having a smoke detector. “The national average shows that the best form of protection you have against a house fire as far as loss of life is a working smoke alarm,” said Kirkland.
Kirkland added that the firefighters want to make sure everybody has a smoke detector if they need one and to please come get one because they are free. Kirkland also wanted to remind those people who already have smoke detectors to check the batteries on a regular basis to make sure they are operating properly.
