CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Montgomery County Fire Service held a ribbon cutting for their new burn tower Tuesday afternoon. The tower allows specialized training for firefighters to experience a real world fire under safe and controlled conditions.

“For years to come, we are going to use it to train our men and women and put this building to good use,” said Montgomery County Fire Chief Michael Rios. “This training facility will help our personnel do what we do, and show us what we can expect in the real world. It can prepare us for any emergency we are sent to. It is a blessing we have this in our own county.”

The burn tower is 7,680 square feet, six stories tall, has four burn rooms, and is made up of walls that can reconfigure to demonstrate different scenarios.

“This burn tower is not just a building but a symbol of Montgomery County’s commitment to public safety, education and progress,” said Montgomery County Mayor Wes Golden. “Being a firefighter myself, I understand the importance of training.”

After various members of the community cut a ribbon for the new tower, firefighters demonstrated several training exercises, including a rescue mission from a window, a burning room mission and putting out a fire on a mock propane tank.
