CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville Fire Rescue was busy despite the heat on Saturday, not putting out a fire, but with a practice day for an agility test as the department looks to hire new firefighters.

The testing took place in one of the garages that house the fire trucks at Station 1 on Main Street, and tests involved lifting, pushing, pulling and ladder climbing to name a few. Assistant Chief Michael Rios said this was the physical agility test, which is part of CFR’s new-hire process.

“It’s called the FPAT, Fireground Physical Agility Test, so once you pass the written test, you come here and there’s 13 different stations. It’s basically anything we do as a firefighter. That’s what we put you through. It’s real-life testing,” Rios said.

Clarksville Fire Rescue is accepting applications for firefighters online through August 5. For more details visit cityofclarksville.com, and click on “View current jobs.”
