With cold weather tonight, a tenant had turned on a heater and then left to run some errands, according to CFR Assistant Chief Michael Rios.

There may have been a malfunction with the heater that led to the fire, but investigators are still looking into the cause, Rios said.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one unit, stopping it before it spread. The inside of the apartment was heavily damaged.

The fire was extinguished as of 8:10 p.m.

A man and his daughter were living in the home. No one was injured, but a cat is missing, and the family will be displaced, Rios said.
