CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Fire destroyed a home on Richardson Street Tuesday afternoon, taking the life of one family pet.
Homeowner, Cathy Perrone, said she was on her way home from work and saw the smoke in her neighborhood and didn’t realize it was her home that was on fire.
Perrone, with the help of her son who lives nearby, tried to get inside to save her pets. They were able to save several of them that were outside but one had crawled under her bed and because of the heat and smoke she was unable to get to the dog.
Although the fire is still under investigation, Perrone was told that it could have started with a heating pad that was plugged in but not turned on.
Perrone has lived at the home on Richardson Street for the past 20 years but she said it was her grandmother’s house before her and had been in the family for 70 years.
Perrone added that besides losing her pet she lost valuable antiques that were stored in the attic.
