CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW.COM) – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed a fire at the Shell gas station at Highway 48/13 and Dean Road.

Clarksvillenow.com was alerted to the fire on Facebook at around 5:38 and according to Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Sandra Brandon, multiple calls to their office indicated the fire was started by a lightning strike.

Brandon confirmed that lightning struck gas vent tubes on the canopy covering the gas pumps causing them to ignite. The rest of the building did not catch fire or suffer any damage.

The fire was quickly extinguished and the fire service cleared the station to restart the pumps. The McClure Bridge was shut down for a short time, but traffic was moving again within 20 minutes.
