Moving can be a stressful time, but thoughtful preparation and research can help make the transition easier. If you’re looking to relocate, it’s important to choose a neighborhood that fits the specific needs of your family.
How do you choose the perfect neighborhood? These five tips can help you determine your next big move:
1. Location, location, location
How far away is your target neighborhood from your job? Is it in a good school district for your kids? These are the questions you need to answer when choosing a neighborhood. If it’s a long commute for you but perfect for your children, you may need to make some sacrifices. If it helps, hop in your car and time the drive between the neighborhood and those important places.
2. Meet the neighbors
When purchasing a home, you can usually get a good feel for the community by asking the people who already live there. If you are seriously considering moving to a new neighborhood, knock on a few doors and meet the locals. They may be able to give you advice before you take the next step.
3. Online research
Not comfortable meeting people face to face? Many neighborhoods and communities, especially those with HOA, have neighborhood Facebook pages where members can share information. Join the neighborhood page and ask around, or just do some browsing to see what complaints/praises posters may have. You can also read online reviews about the community to gain more insight about school districts, crime rates, etc.
4. What surrounds the neighborhood?
Make sure you take a tour of the immediate area surrounding the neighborhood. You don’t want to end up driving an hour just to get to a grocery store or coffee shop, but you also want to be sure you don’t have a grocery store in your backyard! Familiarize yourself with the area so you can decide which places you would likely frequent and how close/far away you want to be.
5. Ask an agent
No one knows more about the community than the agent who is listing the property and has already done some of the research for you. Contact your Keller Williams Realty Agent, Marion Jewell, for any questions you might have about the area.
