CUNNINGHAM, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) ā The Merrol Hyde Magnet Lady Hawks traveled to Montgomery Central High School for a homecoming matchup with the Indians on Friday. The Indians were playing their fourth game in five days after not playing for 17 days, and fatigue took over, as they fell 53-10.
The Hawks started the game on an 8-0 run, but the Indians quickly responded with three pointers on back-to-back possesion. Then, Merrol Hyde dominated, going on a 35-0 run that spanned from the first to the end of the third quarter, putting a firm stranglehold on the contest. Sophomore Point Guard Melania Court led the Hawks in scoring with 19.

āThey were tired, and they played tired,ā said Indians head coach Tony Amero. āThey made mental mistakes they donāt normally make. When you’re learning and growing, you have to break bad habits, and we reverted to some of those tonight, hurting us. This oneās over, so we just have to move on.
Despite the loss, it was a non-district game, so it wonāt hurt Central in the long run. They have an all-important game against Battle Creek on Monday, which could determine their postseason seeding and allow them to finish as high as second in the standings.
āWe have to get back at it,ā said Amero. āWe have a big opportunity at Battle Creek on Monday. These girls have an opportunity in front of them that they havenāt had, so I just told them to play loose. Weāve put ourselves in the positon to be here, so if we remeber that, we will go far in the playoffs.ā
