FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. – The last of the members of 101st Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion (HHB) have returned to Fort Campbell, finishing up their 12-month deployment to Afghanistan. Close to 150 Soldiers were welcomed home around 7:30 a.m. Sunday, February 9.
Family and friends stood in a cold light rain mixed with an occasional snow shower outside the hangar at Campbell Army Airfield as the 747 landed and the soldiers marched inside to join their families.
Lieutenant Colonel Kris Rogers had this to say about coming home. “It’s awesome. This reunion is fantastic; it’s always first class and very well done. I’m elated to be back home, just absolutely elated,” said Rogers. Colonel Rogers’ son Eric added it felt good to have his dad home because he had been gone for a really long time.
Earlier Sunday morning a Welcome Home Ceremony was held for around 100 Soldiers with the 101st Sustainment Brigade “Lifeliners” of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) as they returned from serving in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
