CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The sixth annual F2CON is underway at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center, bringing gamers, fans, and families together for a weekend of competitive and casual play.

The event is hosted by CDE Lightband in partnership with Visit Clarksville and Clarksville Parks and Recreation. Christy Batts, Chief Broadband Officer for CDE Lightband, said the idea behind the event started with a simple question: “Several years ago, when we launched our gig services, we had somebody ask me, ‘Well, what can you do on a gig?’

“I thought to myself, “What could we do that would be fun to showcase the power of our bandwidth and our internet services?” That question led to the creation of F2CON, with the name standing for ‘fiber fast.'”

The tournament schedule includes popular games such as Tekken, Street Fighter 6 and Guilty Gear, with a $10,000 prize pool across the selection of games. For the first time, F2CON will also feature family-friendly cosplay on Saturday and Sunday.

High school and college students also play a role in the event, according to Batts. She said that students from Kenwood High School’s STEM Academy help with setup each year, learning about technology, wiring, power, and event logistics.

“They learn about what kind of power it takes to run this… and then also about networking and what it takes to pump the bandwidth in here. And we are actually gaming on 200 gigs of internet this year,” Batts said.

Equipment for the event is provided by partners Gaming Generations and Tampa Never Sleeps, who manage setup and tournament play.

F2CON runs through Sunday, Sept. 7, offering both competitive and casual gaming, cosplay, vendors, and food trucks. For more details or to register, visit www.F2CON.com
