SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Just a short drive from Clarksville, you’ll find some tasty eats in a nostalgic Tennessee atmosphere at The Depot Bar & Grill in Springfield.

Located on Main St., just feet from the railroad tracks, The Depot features traditional American fare that is among our top picks for dining in nearby Robertson County.

There are simply too many good things on The Depot menu to review them all, but the variety gives you plenty of reasons to return.

Entrées (all served with a side salad) range from Shrimp N’ Grits to the 18 oz. Cowboy-Cut Ribeye.

Pastas and Stir-Fry dishes include Shrimp and Mushroom Pasta (served with extra virgin olive oil and garlic), Chef’s Stir-Fry (chicken or shrimp teriyaki served with rice pilaf) and something called Voodoo Pasta (blended chicken, smoked sausage and shrimp with penne).

I opted for the top item on the lunch menu, The Depot Burger, which half a pound of Hereford beef, served with lettuce, tomato and onion. Ordered medium, this was flame-grilled to perfection by someone who knows the secret to a great burger is when to pull it off the flame.

My dining partner opted for the Fish Sandwich, which is a gold crusted fried North Atlantic cod on a hoagie roll. Also served with lettuce, tomato and onion a choice of sides. Like the burger, the serving was large enough to share (though we didn’t actually share).

Other sandwich offerings include Blackened Mahi, Big City Reuben and originals such as the Hobo Wrap which includes grilled steak or chicken, grilled onions and cheese on a chipotle flour tortilla.

The Depot evokes an old time train station with red brick interior walls and tin ceiling. Decorations include train murals and railroad ephemera as well as historic images of mid-state train stations including Union Station and the Clarksville Train Station.

Next time you pass through Springfield, take our recommendation and try The Depot Bar & Grill.
