The purpose of “Exploring the Clarksville Food Scene” is to recount my experiences at different restaurants in the area, and to encourage others to join in both the explorations and the conversations. My visit to P’bodys resulted in quite a few conversations—friends who are big fans of the restaurant were disappointed that I didn’t have a better experience. I was encouraged by more than a few individuals to give them another chance.
While it is said that the third time is the charm, I do question whether or not restaurants have the luxury of a third time. Nevertheless, after my initial review—written after my second visit—I agreed to give them another go.
I asked the same friend to join me. We decided to try out the outdoor venue this time. This allowed us to appreciate the day and the view, along with the individuals who enjoy a cigarette or two with their meals.
Our very cheerful server brought us a basket of fresh, warm homemade potato chips, evenly sprinkled with powdered ranch dressing. These crispy chips were quite good.
I indicated to our server that we wanted to order something from the grill, and asked for her recommendation. She said that the mini burgers were particularly good. They were made with house burger, ground from the trimmings that resulted from cutting a steak to order. When I asked if I could make them with mushrooms and Swiss, she was more than happy to accommodate.
My friend ordered the Black and Blue Salad, requesting his steak to be medium-rare. Our server made a point of clarifying that he wanted blue cheese on his salad, saying that many people would get upset with her when their salads arrived with blue cheese.
The food arrived, my two mini burgers and a heaping pile of piping hot fries in a basket with a red and white paper liner. My friend’s salad was generously dressed, loaded with large croutons–oozing with garlic butter, plenty of blue cheese, and a sliced medium-rare steak on top.
The mini burgers had good flavor, though they were a little on the dry side. (This may be accounted to the fact that they were small and may have had a lower fat content, depending on which cut of steak was used.) The sautéed mushrooms added juiciness and flavor. The fries were tasty. My friend enjoyed his salad, saying that with a lunch like that he wouldn’t need much for dinner.
Running a restaurant is not an easy task. I know that. Consistently putting out a quality product is always the goal. I respect that. My experiences at each restaurant are simply reflections of what that restaurant wants the public to know.
