I had heard that there was a new business located in the old Lodge building, but was not aware that Overtime Sports Bar and Grill had a great lunch menu until a friend recently mentioned it. Curious to check it out, I found a willing companion and we met up for a late lunch.
Despite the rainy day, the environment was bright, filled with lots of energy coming from the many different television screens, sharing the latest sporting activities. We were seated at a high top, and our friendly waitress got our drinks quickly. When asked what the favorite appetizers were, she recommended the Chip Shot fried pickles ($5.99) or the Button Hook Fried Mushrooms ($7.29). We agreed to try the mushrooms.

As it was a late lunch, there weren’t many other patrons, and our appetizer came up quickly. We gave our order to our server, and munched on the three-quarters of a pound of hot, crispy, but juicy mushrooms, dipping them in the OT’s signature sauce that accompanied them. We weren’t certain as to the sauce… perhaps a very mild horseradish mayonnaise?
Based on our server’s recommendation, my lunch companion ordered the wrap with the Buffalo-style chicken- two hand breaded Kickin’ Fingers with Monterrey jack and cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and the choice of chipotle mayo. (Lunch price $6.99) I ordered the quarter pound Black Angus Burger (Lunch price $5.99), opting for the fresh cooked chips as my side.

My friend enjoys spicy food, but this chicken carried some serious heat. Make sure you let your server know just how much heat you can handle if you order the spicy chicken! My burger was a good-sized burger — it was laden with cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onion and a bit of mayo. After a couple of bites, though, it seemed that there wasn’t a whole lot of distinctive burger flavor to it. It wasn’t grilled, and it didn’t even have any fried flavor. It was just rather tasteless. The fresh potato chips were quite good.
The lunch menu also includes options like potato soup and salad ($4.99), half Club Sandwich ($4.99), Kickin’ Wings and fries ($5.99). The lunch menu prices are good Monday-Friday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. There is a full menu which has lots more from which to choose: Oven-baked sandwiches, salads, pizzas, chicken and seafood, as well as a kids’ menu.
Overtime provides a decently priced option to the many other restaurants that line Wilma Rudolph, with the perk of being set off the main road. Parking was easy, and the service was quick and friendly. With the other interesting options on the menu, I look forward to going back and trying Overtime again soon.
