CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Hawaiian cuisine has officially made its way to Clarksville.
L&L Hawaiian Grill (1725 Wilma Rudolph Blvd.) offers a variety of barbecue plates, burgers, seafood, Hawaiian style tacos, barbecue bowls, and sides.
The restaurant, which is a chain, has a fast-food feel with booth style seating. You order from a large menu behind the counter and your food is brought to your table. Take-out is also an option.
My coworker and I decided to try the platters, which come with a side of white or brown rice and macaroni salad. He ordered the Curry Chicken Katsu and I chose the Kalua Pork with cabbage.
Our food was delivered to our table within just a few minutes and arrived in take-out Styrofoam containers.
My coworker was initially disappointed that the Curry Chicken Katsu was fried, but we later discovered that this is exactly what Katsu means. Lesson learned.
The chicken was smothered with a thick curry gravy, which we both found delicious. According to my coworker, curry could make even an old sock taste good, so there’s that.
My pork dish was initially a little bland, but became much improved when I added the side of barbecue sauce. It was a little thin and soaked into the pork quickly, so I would have preferred a thicker sauce.
The real star of the show was the macaroni salad. It’s a shame the portion size was so small because this stuff was creamy and amazing. I’d go back just to order a large side of it.
It should be noted that a week prior to our visit, another one of our coworkers brought a plate of the Grilled Barbecue Chicken back to work with her. I tried it and was very impressed. It was tender and juicy with an authentic smoky flavor.
I would recommend giving the place a try if you’re in the mood for a quick lunch that’s different from typical fast food joints. I’ll likely make a return trip to give the burgers or tacos a chance.
