Not exactly close to a source for fresh seafood, Clarksville does a good job of providing various restaurants to enjoy sushi and sashimi. My latest venture into trying sushi landed me at Kisoro Sushi and Steak. Located in Exit 1 Galleria, behind Walgreen’s on Tiny Town Road, Kisoro is another of those strip mall restaurants that has done a great job of transforming a simple space into a rather elegant eatery.

Going out for sushi is always a visual experience. There is so much more than just delicious food. The artistry involved in making the food speak is intricate and delightful.

Ordering a combination of sushi and sashimi seemed a good compromise to getting to enjoy the best of what is offered. My brave eating companion agreed to try the combo platter with me… and ordered a Wasabi roll along with it. Our platter included a bowl of Miso soup and a house salad. While these are pretty standard fare at such restaurants, the traditional dressing on the salad at Kisoro is a bit different from other places. It has a creamy tanginess, and the flavor pops against the mild iceburg flavor.

The arrival of food to the table should always be done with an air of presentation. After all, you first appreciate the food with your eyes. Our waitress was aware of this. First came the Wasabi roll. It was drizzled with a spicy green wasabi sauce, as well as garnishes of black and white sesame seeds and green fish eggs. The heat of the wasabi was balanced well with the tuna and the sticky rice.

Then there was the presentation of the Combo platter. The chef had made a lovely tuna rose, nestled in greenery and surrounded by a variety of tunas and salmon. The flavors were delicate and fresh, the meaty fish melting in my mouth, each piece with distinctive flavor. I had to pace
myself to savor each bite.

For those who may not be certain of sushi/sashimi, Kisoro also offers other options: tempura, Japanese noodles, hibachi grill, and a variety of salads and appetizers.

Our plates were empty, and our waitress returned to ask if we needed anything else. I wanted to say, “More!” I refrained… this time, but I will definitely be returning.
