Located near the intersection of Madison and 76, Hong Kong Wok & Bistro is a convenient place to stop in for a quick lunch or an evening meal. The atmosphere is low key, with a variety of interesting artwork. We were warmly greeted and immediately seated, with our drinks arriving quickly.

The menu is extensive, offering Bento boxes, traditional dishes, signature dishes, soups and salads, noodles and rice, vegetarian, and gluten free options. Wanting to try a restaurant specialty, we ordered HK Wok Chicken Lettuce Wraps, a sweet combination of stir-fried ground chicken, celery, carrots, and water chestnuts in a hoisin sauce ($7.99). The fun comes in taking the accompanying lettuce and making a refreshingly crisp, cool and hot flavor bundle.

Based on our server’s recommendation, I ordered the Singapore Rice Noodles, stir-fried rice noodles with egg, cabbage, carrots and green onions in Curry Indian Powder ($9.99). I chose the combo which included beef, chicken and shrimp. My lunch friend ordered a Bento Box with General Tso’s Chicken, fried rice and two egg rolls ($6.88). He also requested a side of the hot mustard sauce.

Fragrantly spiced with a pleasant yellow curry, the thin rice noodles were laden with juicy shrimp, strips of stir-fried beef and chicken, along with lots of cabbage and carrots. The flavors worked together well. My foodie friend enjoyed his Bento box, especially reveling in the hot mustard sauce… which had a generous amount of wasabi, causing his eyes to water a bit, but kept him going back for more. I tasted it, and enjoyed it, and would especially recommend it to anyone who has a cold, as it works well for clearing the sinuses!
