Always on the lookout for new places to try, I was pleased to see a Grand Opening sign on a little restaurant located right outside Gate 4 by Fort Campbell. With its interesting name, it sounded like a fun place to check out.
Entering Flychickenfly, I was surprised at just how small it is. There is very cozy seating for eight, and even if you don’t come in as friends, you will definitely hear everything going on in everyone’s conversations while you dine.
Looking at the menu board, I was surprised again. While FCF Signature Chicken is offered with three different sauces—original, soy garlic, and spicy garlic—this is not Southern fried chicken. This is Korean fried chicken, which is good to know if you enter expecting some fried chicken. Korean fried chicken uses a very thin batter, resulting in a light, thin, crispy coating on the meat. It’s a whole different KFC!

The menu board also included options of the Cup Bab (BBQ over rice in a cup)—ranging in price from $6.99-$9.99– and Dosirak (BBQ and Rice in a box)—with prices between $8.99-$11.99. The choices of BBQ include Bulgogi, Galbi, Spicy Pork, Grilled Chicken, Chicken Teriyaki, and Pork Cutlet. The meats are served with green vegetables and kimchi. A variety of sides are available including French fries, Korean Style Egg Roll, and Pickled Radish.
I ordered the Dosirak with Bulgogi ($9.99) along with an order of FCF Signature Original Chicken Strips ($4.99) and some Pickled Radish ($1.99). The food didn’t take very long to arrive, but several smart individuals came in as I was waiting, leaving quickly with their orders. Calling ahead appears to be the best way to order.

The gentleman behind the counter was very courteous, and handed my order to me, packed up and ready to go. It was a filling plateful of food, with a large portion of rice, complete with a fried egg, cooked perfectly so the yolk created a sauce when cut into the rice. This paired well with the rich, meaty Bulgogi and was complimented by the spicy kimchi. There was a rice noodle salad with mushrooms and scallions that had a crisp crunch. The box also came with a cup of miso soup.
The FCF chicken did have a very light amount of coating. It was served with a side of ranch and a side of honey-mustard. I think next time I will try the Soy Garlic, as I would have liked a little more flavor. The Pickled Radish was refreshingly tart.

Flychickenfly appears to do quite a bit of catering, and according to their menu, are willing to tailor to your specific tastes and needs. New to the Fort Campbell area, they are not new to the chicken business, as their claim is to have served the best Korean food for over 15 years in New York City.
It is always fun to have a new place to try. I would just recommend calling ahead to order… and having a plan for an alternate location to sit and enjoy your food.
