Do people choose a favorite Mexican restaurant based on location/proximity to their home or place of work, or do people choose because of the food and atmosphere? Clarksville has a great variety of Mexican restaurants from which to choose. Is there really that much difference in the flavors and menus to make a drive across town something worth doing? For me, it comes down to the food, though the atmosphere does play in. And so I am still on the lookout to find a favorite Mexican restaurant. I had yet to try Dos Margaritas off of Madison Street. In an attempt to be thorough before declaring a favorite, this became my latest location to check out.

There is no question as you pull up to the restaurant that someone enjoys life and creativity. The windows of the restaurant have been artfully drawn to appear as though you are arriving at a traditional Mexican building, complete with arches and brilliant tropical plants. This is a great hint as to the interior… which is the most riotously colorful restaurant interior I have ever experienced. No expense was spared when it came to the amount of paint that was applied to the walls, chairs, tables, and booths at Dos Margaritas. The effusiveness of festive décor made me eager to see if the same enthusiasm was applied to the food.
As this is Dos Margaritas, it seemed appropriate to try a margarita. The flavor was tangy and sweet and salty, with a balanced amount of tequila. The margarita flavors were met boldly by the salsa, which had a little bit of heat, something I have not always found at Mexican restaurants here in Clarksville.
The menu was just as colorful as the restaurant, with a long list of items from which to choose. After much discussion about which meal to choose, along with figuring out the proper pronunciation of “pollo”– (pOH yoh), my friend decided on the Pollo Margaritas ($8.99)—grilled chicken breast and grilled pineapple slices served with both red sauce and cheese sauce along with beans and rice. In keeping with the restaurant theme, I went with Dos Margaritas Especial ($7.25)—one chicken burrito and one chicken enchilada served with lettuce, sour cream, pico de gallo (guy OH), and guacamole.
The food arrived quickly and colorfully. The shredded chicken in my burrito and enchilada was flavored well. The grilled pineapple and chicken were smothered in sauces, but had that great grill flavor. Both of us enjoyed our meals at Dos Margaritas. We agreed that this was a restaurant to come back to again, both to experience more of the menu and more of the atmosphere.
