CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Ice accumulations contributed to nearly a dozen crashes in Clarksville on Sunday. Police say the incidents were mainly on overpasses, but downed trees were a problem in several other areas.

At one point, more than 12-thousand area homes lost power. Schools are on a two-hour delay.

National Weather Service meteorologist John Cohen said ice accumulations were just enough to strain power lines and ice-over bridges and overpasses; “Official readings in Clarksville showed a quarter-inch of ice Sunday, and maybe a little more approaching the Kentucky state line.”

Cohen says the weekend freeze is the last sign on extreme cold for a while.

“The net seven to ten days will be mild. A little bit of rainfall, but we don’t expect any frozen precipitation during that time.” Cohen said.

The extended forecast doesn’t indicate any snow before Christmas.
